Name Place Animal Thing Bora Technologies

Privacy Policy

Last updated 8 August 2026.

Name Place Animal Thing is made by Bora Technologies. This page explains exactly what the app does with data. It describes the shipped app, version 1.4.2, on iOS (com.boratechnologies.npat) and Android (com.praneelbora.NamePlaceAnimalThing).

The short version

There are no accounts. You never give us an email address, a password, or your real name. Almost everything the app knows about you sits on your phone. The parts that leave your phone are the things multiplayer needs — your display name, your emoji, and the answers you type — and they are deleted when the room is.

What you type in, and where it goes

When you first open the app you pick a display name, an emoji avatar and an accent colour. Type whatever you want. We do not check it against anything, and we do not link it to any identity. It is stored on your phone.

Single player and the daily challenge run entirely on your device. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. The opponents are generated locally by the app.

Multiplayer sends data to our server, because it has to. When you create or join a room we send:

  • your display name, emoji avatar and accent colour
  • the room code
  • a region word derived from your device’s time zone setting — the first part of it, so “Asia” or “Europe”, never a precise location
  • a latency number, measured by timing one request to our server
  • during the round: the answers you type
  • during voting: your votes on other players’ answers
  • your score and your ready / answered / voted flags

Every other player in that room sees your display name, your avatar, your score, and — after the round closes — your answers. That is the game. Do not type anything into a round that you would not want the other people in the room to read.

What our server stores, and for how long

Rooms. A room record holds the room code, whether it is public, the host, the list of players with the fields above, the round settings, the letters, and the current phase. Rooms are deleted:

  • immediately, when the host ends the game
  • about five minutes after the last activity, if nobody is in the room
  • after about an hour of inactivity, in every other case

A background job sweeps for expired rooms every fifteen minutes, so deletion can lag the deadline by up to that long. Once a room is deleted, the answers typed in it are gone from our server.

Devices — only if you turn on notifications. If you allow notifications, the app sends a device record to our server so we can support reminders. It contains: a random ID the app generates on your phone (a UUID, not a hardware identifier, not your advertising ID), an Expo push token, whether you are on iOS or Android, the app version, your display name and emoji, your device’s time zone, a language value, your streak numbers, your last login date, your total days played, and your reminder preferences.

If you never allow notifications, this record is never created and none of that ever leaves your phone.

We do not currently delete these device records automatically. There is no expiry on them. If you want yours removed, email boratechnologies9@gmail.com — see “Deleting your data” below.

Server logs and infrastructure. Running a server means our hosting provider processes your IP address in order to deliver traffic to us, and our own application logs record events like “a player joined room 123456”, including the display name used. Our server also uses your IP address for rate limiting, so one person cannot spam the service. If our server hits an unexpected internal error it can send a report about that error to an error-monitoring service; those reports describe what failed in our code.

What never leaves your phone

Stored on your device only, in the app’s local storage:

  • your stats, achievements, XP and level
  • your single-player boosts
  • your daily streak
  • your sound, haptics and theme preferences
  • your notification and reminder settings
  • whether you have finished onboarding
  • the random device ID described above (which is only sent to us if you enable notifications)

Uninstalling the app removes all of it.

Permissions we do not ask for

The app does not request access to your camera, microphone, photos, contacts, files, calendar, or GPS location. It has no code that reads any of them. The only permission it asks for is notifications, and only if you say yes to the notifications step.

On iOS it also shows Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt at launch, which is about the advertising identifier — see the next section.

Advertising

The app includes Google’s Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) and Google’s User Messaging Platform consent SDK. Being honest about what this means:

  • The AdMob SDK is started every time you open the app, and it requests ads in the background whether or not one is ever shown to you. Those requests go to Google, and Google collects data through its SDK under its own policies.
  • Interstitial ads — the full-screen ones — are controlled by a switch on our server, so they can be turned on or off without shipping a new version of the app. They never appear in multiplayer at all; that is a hard rule in the code, not a setting.
  • A “Watch Ad” button appears after a game. It is optional. Tapping it plays a rewarded video and gives you a Skip Boost. Nothing in the game requires you to watch it.
  • On iOS, we show Apple’s tracking prompt before starting ads. If you say no, the game plays exactly the same.
  • In the EU and other regions that require it, Google’s consent form is shown before ads are initialised, and your choice there is passed to Google’s SDK.

Google’s handling of ad data is governed by Google’s own privacy policy, not ours. We do not receive your advertising identifier ourselves, and we do not build advertising profiles.

Analytics

There is no third-party analytics SDK in the app. No Firebase, no Amplitude, no Mixpanel, no Segment.

The app contains analytics plumbing that records events like “app opened” internally, but no destination is configured in the released builds, so those events are not sent anywhere and are discarded. Our server has no analytics endpoint to receive them. If that changes, this page will be updated before it ships.

The App Store and Google Play give us their own aggregate reporting about downloads and crashes. That is provided by Apple and Google under their policies, not collected by our code.

Notifications

Every notification you see from this app is scheduled locally, on your device, by the app itself. There are two: a streak reminder at a time you choose (8:00 pm by default) and a daily challenge reminder in the morning. Both can be turned off in Settings, and both are cancelled if you reset your data.

We do obtain and store an Expo push token when you enable notifications, as described above. We do not currently send any push messages to it — there is no code on our server that sends push. If we ever start, we will say so here first.

Children

The app has no age gate. It does not ask your date of birth and it does not verify anyone’s age. We have not configured the ad SDK for child-directed treatment.

It is a word game with no chat feature, but players type free-text answers that other players in the room can read, and the app shows advertising. Parents should take that into account. If you believe a child has provided us with information you want removed, email boratechnologies9@gmail.com and we will delete it.

Deleting your data

On your phone. Settings has a “Reset All Data” button. It clears your stats, achievements, boosts, display name, avatar, accent colour, sound and haptics preferences, reminder settings and onboarding state, and cancels every scheduled reminder. It does not clear the random device ID, and it does not delete the device record on our server.

Uninstalling removes everything the app stored on your device.

On our server. Room data deletes itself, as described above — you do not need to do anything. To delete a device record, email boratechnologies9@gmail.com. Tell us the display name and emoji you used and roughly when you last played, so we can find it; we have no other way to identify you, because there is no account.

Third parties

  • Google AdMob and Google User Messaging Platform — advertising and ad consent.
  • Expo — issues the push token used for notifications, which involves Apple’s and Google’s push services.
  • Our hosting and database providers — run the multiplayer server and store the room and device records described above.
  • Apple App Store and Google Play — distribute the app.

We do not sell data. We do not share your gameplay data with anyone for their own marketing.

Changes

If we change what the app does with data, we will change this page and update the date at the top.
